Lecture on Collecting Forensic Evidence

 

As part of the course "Principles of Criminal Law," the Faculty of Law and Public Administration hosted on 15 November 2011, a lecture titled: "Ways of Collecting Forensic Evidence: Fingerprint Lifting.” The lecture was given by the director of the Forensic Evidence Department, Major Saeed Nasr Issa, and experts on the collection of forensic evidence at the Palestine Police Force Captain Munir Sawwan, and his assistant Rida Sbaihat.

The Chairperson of the Law Department, Dr. Khalid Talahmah, welcomed the guests and commented on the value of the long-term cooperation between the Palestine Police Force and the Faculty of Law and Public Administration. Instructor Zeina Al-Jallad emphasized the importance of cooperation between the justice sector and academic institutions, linking theory to practice.

Major Issa overviewed the technologies used in gathering forensic evidence, explaining ways of lifting fingerprints. He discussed the remarkable development in Palestinian police work over the years, focusing on police efforts at building capacities of experts and technicians to enable them to use forensic evidence in disclosing crimes.

Two fingerprint experts introduced the tools used and demonstrated the different fingerprint-lifting techniques.
